Main Goals

The main goals of the Phoenix Taoist Center (PTC) are to operate a teaching center in Phoenix, AZ, and to build a Taoist Hermitage in a mountainous area that will serve as a retreat and place of solace for members and benefactors. The structure will be modeled on the traditional Taoist design of an open-air practice and shrine area with enclosed private rooms for visitors and residents. The photo shows the proposed design for the temple.

This hermitage will host several Taoist meditation retreats each year and provide space for members and benefactors to reside and practice there, as well as Taoist monks and nuns from other countries.

Financially, the hermitage will be sustained through donations, memberships, and the production of Taoist publications and media projects. It will not, however, serve as a place for commercial-type events. The site will emulate the traditional manner of how hermitages, temples, and cloisters functioned in ancient China—purely as a place for practice, learning, and solace.

The PTC will begin looking for land on which to build the hermitage after establishing the city teaching center. We would deeply appreciate any financial, legal, real estate, or related advice and help concerning the building of these Taoist Way-Places.

Pleas contact us at info@phoenixtaoistcenter.com if you wish to offer any advice or help in locating a suitable location for the hermitage.

Memberships are the Way . . .

A membership in the Phoenix Taoist Center (PTC) is a great way for people to receive our teaching materials and services at a greatly reduced price. Not only do your membership fees help support the PTC, but more importantly you are participating in restoring the wonderful and beautiful traditions of Taoism.

Taoist Meditation Practiced
at the Phoenix Taoist Center

The Taoist methods taught here derive from Chang San-Feng (a famous Sung Dynasty Taoist Priest and attributed founder of T’ai Chi Ch’uan). Chang’s sitting, standing, walking and Taoist Yoga Eight Brocades practices are simple to learn and are exceptionally effective for attaining tranquility and developing qi.

FREE booklets detailing Chang’s methods are available to anyone visiting the Center.
