The I Ching (Yee Jing) has enthralled readers since its early days up to the present. It is the very basis for understanding yin-yang theorythe interaction of opposite forces of nature, both on the microcosmic and macrocosmic levels.
It would be impossible to gauge the influences that the I Ching and its basic components of the Eight Diagrams have had on Chinese culture, history, and all its great spiritual philosophers, immortals, and sages.
In China, religion, philosophy, medical-health practices, fortune telling, feng shui, geomantic divination, astrology, folklore magic beliefs, mystical and alchemical sciences, and more developed from, adopted, or integrated in some manner ideas inherent to the I Ching. It permeates the entire undercurrent of Chinese civilization, philosophy, and culture.
In this workshop the five primary areas of I Ching correlation and study will be presented:
1. The Eight Diagrams, 64 Images, and Ten Wings of the I Ching
- First the history and creation of the I Ching will be explained. Showing how the I Ching was first invented and how it developed throughout Chinese history to present day.
- Next, a detailed explanation of the Eight Diagrams (Pa Kua) and the four primary arrangements of Before Heaven, Complementary, Eight Gates, and After Heaven Arrangements.
- An explanation of the Ten Wings of the I Ching and how they apply to the structure and use of the I Ching.
- Explanation of specialized terms in the I Ching, such as “Yellow Dragon,” Magic Tortoise,” and so on.
2. I Ching and Divination
- This section will cover the proper and traditional ceremonial and ritual for consulting and casting the I Ching oracle.
- How to properly interpret the images derived, such as the meaning of the primary image, the inner image, and changing images.
- Plus, how to correctly interpret changing and ruling lines of the I Ching.
- This section of the seminar will focus on developing the intuitive and calculative powers of each individual.
3. I Ching and Chinese Astrology
- Everyone is born with four animal signs within Chinese astrology, based on the year, month, day, and hour. From these four time periods an animal and element are assigned. Each of these four then relate to one of the Eight Diagrams, and from here a person’s Life Path Image is created, showing a person how to best achieve their fullest human and spiritual potential.
- Participants will be taught how to calculate their own Life Path I Ching Symbol.
4. T’ai Chi / Internal Alchemy and the I Ching
- Both of these internal Taoist systems of cultivation and practice are based on the I Ching. Within this section of the seminar the process of correlating the T’ai Chi postures and the internal alchemy functions are explained in detail. These will be explained in both accordance to the Eight Diagrams and the 64-Images of the I Ching.
5. Feng Shui and the I Ching
- The entire art of Feng Shui (Wind and Water) is originally based upon the I Ching. In this portion of the course a detailed explanation will be given showing the correlation between the images and how they function to attract good fortune and harmony within ones environment through the proper use of the Eight Diagrams and 64-Images.
