Danny Kelly
Cleveland Heights, OH
Danny Kelly started learning T'ai Chi in the fall of 1989 with a class offered through a local community recreation program. In January of 2000 he took over the class when his teacher moved. He also participated in two weekend workshops in the mid-1990's with William C. C. Chen, learning mostly push-hands and Tai Chi sword.
Danny Kelly's first teacher, Michael Frost, learned most of his T'ai Chi form locally from a Mr. Ong (who passed away sometime in the 80's or early 90's). He had learned the 24-posture simplified/standardized T'ai Chi form. Michael Frost had appended the 24-posture form he had learned from Mr. Ong, and taught what is called Temple Style T'ai Chi.
Danny Kelly was always interested in connecting the form he practiced to the principles given in the old T'ai Chi literature for achieving a deeper understanding of T'ai Chi. To strengthen himself as a teacher he researched the available T'ai Chi literature, and based on Stuart's Alve Olson's suggested reading list in his book T'ai Chi Sensing-Hands, he acquired a copy of Lee's Modified Tai Chi for Health by Li Ying-arng. The posture sequence of Lee's form matched very closely to that of Master T.T. Liang's 150-Posture T'ai Chi form presented in Stuart Alve Olson's other book, Imagination Becomes Reality. So after a series of changes, he began teaching Master T. T. Liang's form based on Stuart's book.
Presently Danny Kelly is teaching the 16-Posture Before Heaven I T'ai Chi, T'ai Chi Qigong, and T'ai Chi for Kids forms.
