Stephen Salkof began his study of the martial arts in 1968, during his tour of duty in Vietnam, where he practiced Tae Kwon Do with the Korean military. When he returned to the United States, he continued to study Tae Kwon Do, as well as Tang Soo Do, and Aikido. In 1982, he started studying Hsiung-style T'ai Chi. He began teaching in 1988 and was fully certified as an independent instructor of T'ai Chi in 1995.
